Phonetics and Phonology in Europe 2015

Conference series

This installment of the conference series Phonetics and Phonology in Europe will be the first to be hosted outside the Iberian Peninsula where it was originally established a little over 10 years ago (as Phonetics and Phonology in Iberia). PaPI started in 2003 as a joint effort by Gorka Elordieta (Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, Spain), Maria João Freitas (Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal), Sónia Frota (Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal), Pilar Prieto (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain; presently, Universitat Pompeu Fabra), Maria-Josep Solé (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain) and Marina Vigário (Universidade do Minho, Portugal; presently, Universidade de Lisboa).

The goal of the conference has always been that of bringing together researchers interested in all areas of phonetics and phonology, with a special focus on laboratory phonology work, providing an interdisciplinary forum in Europe for research on the sound properties of language.

Due to the success of the conference series, the geographical basis for the hosting institutions was expanded after its 10th anniversary in Lisbon in 2013 (the reference to Iberia having been intended as locational rather than topic-related), to make it more explicitly European. The conference alternates with Laboratory Phonology.
